The rich stream
of sound information from our processor will be
delivered to the cochlea through novel electrode
technology. Using advanced micro-electro-mechanical
(MEMs) manufacturing techniques, ACS is developing
electrode arrays with more than three times the
number of contacts of current implant systems
72 electrical contacts in the inner ear versus the 22
or less found in todays systems. This will
provide significantly enhanced frequency resolution
and allow more natural sound-frequency mapping to
neurons in the cochlea.
